BUTTERSCOTCH DROPS
1 cup shortening
2 cups brown sugar -- firmly packed
2 eggs
1/2 cup buttermilk -- or water
3 1/2 cups flour -- sifted
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
Mix shortening, brown sugar & eggs. Stir in buttermilk.
Sift together flour, soda & salt, and add to the first mixture. Chill.
Drop by teaspoonfuls about 2" apart onto lightly greased baking sheet. Bake in hot oven (400 degrees F) 8 to 10 minutes and set (almost no imprint when touched with finger). Makes 6 dozen.
