Baked Macaroni and Cheese
Baked Macaroni and Cheese
4 C. water
1 tsp. salt
1 1/2 C. dry elbow macaroni
2 T. butter
12 oz. can evaporated milk
1 large egg, beaten
1 T. all purpose flour
1/4 tsp. each salt and pepper
2 3/4 C. grated sharp cheddar cheese
Bring the water to a boil in a medium pot, add the salt and the macaroni cooking till tender. Drain well and return the macaroni to the pot. Stir in the butter until it has melted. Stir in the milk, egg, flour, salt and pepper. Add 2 C. of the cheese and combine well. Pour into an 8x8x2 casserole dish that has been buttered. Bake uncovered in a 375 degree oven for 25 minutes. Remove and top with the remaining cheese, return to the oven for 10 more minutes. Let sit 5 minutes before serving.
