Strawberry-Basil Dumplings
Strawberry-Basil Dumplings
2 C All-Purpose Flour
1 Egg, lightly beaten
2 tbs Butter, melted
1/4 C Milk
1/2 tsp fresh Basil, finely chopped
1 tsp Salt
1 package fresh Strawberries
Begin this recipe by sifting your flour onto a clean work
surface. Beat together the egg, butter, and milk in a medium bowl. Add the salt
and basil and then pour on to the floured surface. Knead the mixture until
smooth and doughy. Cut the dough into pieces, using a round cookie cutter if
you have one. Prepare a bowl of hot water with a colander inside. Wrap the
dough around your cleaned and hulled strawberries. Seal well and then bring a
large pot of salted water to a boil. Drop the dumplings in and cook for about
eight minutes. Remove from the water and set inside the prepared bowl of hot
water until ready to serve. Top with melted butter and serve with a side of
cream.
