Old Fashioned Southern Biscuits
1/2 cup shortening
4 cups self rising flour (make your own with this recipe)
2 cups buttermilk
melted butter
Preheat your oven to 425F.
Cut the shortening into the flour with a pastry blender or fork, until crumbly.
Add buttermilk, while stirring until the mixture is just moistened. Do not over stir.
Put dough down until about 1/2 inch thick. Cut with a 2 inch biscuit cutter. Place in a pan or cookie sheet and brush the tops with butter.
Bake at 425F for 14 minutes. Brush with butter once again, after removing from the oven.
*******Make Your Own Self Rising Flour***********
1 cup flour
1 1/4 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
Combine well and store in a covered container. Multiply recipe as needed
